Another album of lost songs and demos from the 90s recovered from my brother's collection of old tapes and cds!
Track 01 - Working for Love but Getting None: What you hear is the result of combining the only two badly recorded versions of this song together. The 1st attempt was made in October 1994 during the Def Code sessions and the 2nd was in July of 1997 during the 420247 sessions. In this case it seems that the two different versions complemented each other so well as far as one version possessing what the other didn't have. It just goes to show you never know until you try it!
Track 02 - Big Doobs: I went out to record a friend's band and it turned into a crazy jam session with many weird overdubs layered on top! Originally recorded in the spring of 1996.
Track 03 - Dark Towers: A leftover track from the 1998 Old World / Primal Distortions sessions. Recorded in February 1998 and written in 1995 originally for the album titled "Dreaming of the Atomic Arc".
Track 04 - The Maze: Another leftover track from the 1998 Old World / Primal Distortions sessions. Recorded in February 1998 and written in September of 1995. Features a short little bit of the original September 1995 vocal track!
Track 05 - Flying Lovers: September of 1998 I was off and running with this new idea for a "blue" album. The songs were flowing and I was capturing them all on a strange sound on sound mini disc recording loop. This song takes the same name as the Chagall painting that inspired the whole thing.
Track 06 - Grey Skies: Originally written and performed with Stonehenge for the never released "Other Game" album in 1993. This version was done 3 years later in the winter of 1996.
Track 07 - White: A re-recording of the version I had done a year prior but with a different approach. I think I redid this mainly so it would have a more stable tempo. Recorded in October of 1997.
Track 08 - Northern Winds: This was the first attempt at recording this even though this was already written in the fall of 1993. This version was recorded in the winter of 1996.
Track 09 - March: A keyboard based instrumental recorded in March of 1996.
Track 10 - Lightness: Recorded in the winter of 1996, but this was actually the 2nd version to be recorded. The very original from the summer of 1995 is now believed to be permanently lost... That version truly was ultra primitive!
Track 11 - Country Music is a Crime: I was commissioned by someone from Nashville who shall not be named to record demos of his original songs to be shopped around for label consideration. This is unfortunately the only thing I have left from those sessions. Recorded in the summer of 1999.
Tracks 12 - Fall Into Blue: The very 1st version of this song recorded in September of 1998 on the strange sound on sound mini disc loop setup playing the Yamaha PSR420 keyboard.
Tracks 13 - 15: Ah yes the very first versions of the Confessions in Blue tracks! These were recorded in January of 1999 while couch surfing and tripping on acid. At this time I was still using the strange minidisc loop rig to lay down these rough ideas.
Track 16 - Legend: Recorded in August of 1997 just before upgrading my keyboards. I was in a haze at this time staying high every waking second of the day. I think this song was a way of working through a slight depression.
Released December 12, 1999
